Seems to be some empiric evidence that pygmaeus are extra sensitive to flukes, at least anti-fluke medication can sometimes stop the die off

That was posted by me. Flubendazole worked in keeping them going for a while but whatever it was that was killing them eventually returned and wiped them out within half a year.

Hence why I'm wondering whether there is more to their deaths in my tank.

After some period, doesn't everybody get some algae (species) on the front glass? For me it's most some GDA as well, but nothing some steel iron microwool can't get rid of the glass once a week.

I had a buce tank filled with botanicles, shrimp and snails. Turface substrate, extremely heavy light, 12 hour photoperiod.

For 3 months, I had 0 algae. None on glass.
Couldn't even believe it myself.

Snails and microorganisms in the tank just kept it completely spotless. Eventually I decided to change my filtration system out of boredom and the instability got the tank nuked with algae.
