My fellow ScapeCrunchers,
I am thrilled to let you know that I've just learned that the USA Internal Revenue Service has officially approved us as being a public charity!! ScapeCrunch is now officially owned and operated by the ScapeCrunch Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) public charity.
To my knowledge, we are the only public charity devoted to expanding the hobby, supporting research, education and conservation of aquatic plants. We are certainly the only forum that is owned this way with a clear mission to serve the public good long-term.
While I know this was never an issue for many of you, I do know that there was always some wariness associated with forums being owned by corporations such as VerticleScope or by individuals with a profit motive. Heck, I owned APC and later sold it, so I can understand the apprehension from some.
I hope this reassures all of us that ScapeCrunch is truly a site by us, for us and up to us. Let's keep making it great!
