I’m excited to see how this grows and changes. It’s my first scape and setup that’s high tech. I’m hoping to get rid of the ugly filter intake and outage but haven’t found good info on what lily pipes to get and tubing and how to install them on my fluval 107 canister filter so that is next on my list. Stocking right now is 12 green neon tetras, 10 emerald dwarf rasboras and 6 amano shrimp. I’m currently not fertilizing because I’m struggling with high nitrates.

Here are some options for Nano / shorty Lily pipes, depending on how small you need

Definitely recommend a skimmer on the outflow rather than the intake , intake skimmers eat nanofish 😕

I also should say this is a uns60u tank.

How high are the nitrates?
They’ve been sitting at like 80 plus. Before I added the fish I was fertilizing daily with APT 3 and not even thinking about nitrates. I’m an idiot and didn’t realize it could raise the nitrates. They’re slowly coming down with daily 20 percent water changes woth remineralized distilled water.

Thanks! Any idea how to attach them to my fluval 107?

Do a 90% water change and going forward do a weekly 50%. If you stop fertilizing, regardless of NO3, you risk bottoming out others. Do a double dose of the recommended after that big water change.

Hard to tell from the pic, but If using a nutrient rich aquasoil, what some of us have had success with early on, is starting with APT 1 rather than APT 3 as it doesn't raise your nitrates which may already be high as you're experiencing. As things develop and plants fill in, gradually change over to APT 3.

Per the 2HR Aquarist product page for APT 1:
"APT 1 replicates APT 3's winning formula without nitrates and phosphates. This gives maximum algae control for new tanks (we recommend all tanks to start with APT 1 for the first 1-3 months), and optimal long term performance for tanks with more fish. This is because fish food and waste already supply phosphates and nitrates."

Yes this is a hassle for you.

My all time favorite for hoses is silicone, it stretches, bends easily and you don't have to heat it to use it. ARC has it here

Now, your Fluval has obnoxious non-standard tubing 😒 Using the measurements from these replacement adapters

it looks like the external diameter for the intake and outtake ports on Fluval 107 canister's housing are 0.67".

Standard tubing sizes are either 12mm /16mm (interior diameter /exterior diameter), or else 16/22. 16mm = 0.63"

Most but not all Nano pipes are 12/16.

So you will need to use a barbed adapter and a second piece of silicone tubing, either at the Lily pipe end, or at the canister end.

I also have a similar problem: my canister ports are 16/22, but my lily pipes are 12/16. So I have 16/22 silicone tubing from ARC running from my canister 💯 then I use this barbed adapter

1000050418.webp

to match my 16/22 hose with a short snippet of 16mm internal diameter silicone tubing, that then fits over my 12/16 Lily pipes.

🙄😅

Now, the 16mm 0.63" internal diameter on standard 16/22 mm silicone tubing is 0.04mm smaller then the 0.67" external ports on your Fluval 107.

That is very small difference, and silicone stretches so should fit over your housing ports 💯

Or if you wanted, you could just put the adapter at the bottom, use a small piece of 16/22 tubing to connect, and have your main hosing be 12/16, it doesn't really matter.

Does this make sense?

Maybe? I just ordered Lily pipes and silicone tubing and an inline atomizer from GLA with the help of one of their customer service reps so I will have to refer back to this once I have those items. I’m a super visual learner. Thank you for typing this out for me to look back on in a few days!
