THE official "what did you do to your tank(s) today" thread!

Happy Will Ferrell GIF

Let's keep it real by sharing our daily routine. Post daily if you want. It's nice to check in with fellow aquatic gardeners.

I'll start.
  • 70% water change, replaced the mechanical filter, scrapped the glass.
  • Repotted a few stems that my SAEs keep pulling up. I swear I think they do it just to troll with me...
  • Front-loaded macros (micros are auto-dosed daily) and Art's Jungle Juice.
  • Topped up the auto-top off.
  • Increased light levels as growth was too slow for me.

Great thread. I think this could be a long, ongoing one.

Usual 50% weekly water changes on the two high tech tanks.
Fert dosing. At the moment I'm just using a commercial all-in one product but lean on No3 & Po4. I had the bright idea that this would increase the intensity of the red plants. The macros are lacking in these tanks though.

I've since decided that a more non-limiting fert regime may help.
Just received my first batch of dry ferts and have worked out the dosing I want to start.
Just not sure whether to front load the macros or run them 3 times a week. probably not much difference.

I'm also continually scaping/experimenting on two said tanks.

Then trying to work out what lights I may want for my 5 ft 150G tank longer term.
Right now i have mostly non-aquatic lights meant for grow tents (Spider Farm Glow80 x 2 which totals 160W) + a chihiros A2 series I had on hand to increase the temperature (K) as these grow lights are very warm and give the tank a yellowish glow. They also don't have a dimmer. This tank is certainly more difficult to control from a plant perspective than the 4ft tank. I just need to work out why.

I did all the water changes and routine maintenance on Monday. Normally I would split it between Monday and Tuesday, but we drove to the top of Pike’s Peak yesterday. It was awesome!

Today I just watched each tank for awhile, fed the fish, and acclimated some new fish I received. They all look healthy, but I’m quarantining the Cory cats in a 20 gallon so I won’t have to treat in a 125 gallon should something show up.

Oh, the other thing I did was start the CO2 earlier. It had always been turned on an hour before lights, so now is 2 hours. The lights have a half hour sunrise setting so CO2 is effectively on now 2.5 hours before full light. I am after a more consistent CO2 output during the photo period. At the moment I have no or minimal surface agitation in said tank so I need to look at that. The skimmer in Dennis' post reminded me that I need something like that. I'm the skimmer at the moment lol - every day I clean the surface for debris.

Beautiful tanks as always!

May I ask, did you turn the filters off for the photos? I ask as I'm curious ol the amount of surface agitation you have?

Also, is that plant debris in the skimmer, or something else?
I do turn off the filters sometimes so there is less CO2 mist in photographs. I don't think there is a strong ripple in this particular tank., there is decent flow, clean water surface but not really visible rippling on the surface.
Yea that's plant debris in the skimmer ha

Hello everyone,

I figured I’d go ahead and share what I did in my aquascape yesterday!

I’m new here, so please feel free to disregard if this post isn’t in the correct format of the thread.

Last night, I made the decision to trim the detritus infused Rotala var. ‘Orange Juice’ in the rear section of my newly set up 75P “Nature Style” aquascape. It wasn’t an easy choice, but I believe it will promote healthier growth moving forward from both the newly replanted stems and trimmed stems.

I’ve attached a few photos I took during the process. While I’m still battling some diatoms, I hope the images are still enjoyable to look through.

I’ve replanted the trimmed stems and will be closely monitoring for signs of new growth over the next week. Hopefully, fewer diatoms in that area as well. Wish me luck!

Thank you.

Dennis, how long can you maintain a tank like this with just APT daily fertilizer before you have to do something more significant like add APT Jazz or change out the substrate? Do these high energy tanks burn themselves out quickly or can you maintain them for long periods.... like maybe at least a year minimum?
