Journal Many Lessons || 150x60x60cm, 140gal, Horizontal Reactor High-energy Aquascape Journal

I've been considering one of the inline dosing adapters. I've heard of the drip lines clogging at the output (haven't had the issue myself yet) but I would have though having them inline would kinda eliminate the chances of that happening since I would assume there is a constant flow of water past the outputs.... i assumed they were just clogging up with ferts due to evaporation.

I may have missed it, but what does this sump do?

Yeah it's the ~10gal Auto Top Off. It allows me to finish off a ~60 gallon water barrel in the basement of RO water, which leaves the water level a few inches below the desired amount. Then, with the touch of 1 button in the GHL app, my Profilux computer and in-tank float sensors activate the top-off pump to fill the tank to the exact level I have set with my float sensors (dual sensors for redundancy!), then turns the ATO pump off. This also runs at 7am every day for a max of 2 minutes to top off the tank's daily evaporation.

Just beautiful. I envy these large tanks, so much planning goes into it and the execution is just amazing. Really, really well done. I love how you are getting such good growth from the MC as a “reophyte”, I remember Green Aqua tried using it that way years ago in a scape but failed because they dose too lean.

All the colors and variety are great, and I think the “wildness” of the hydrocotyle is dope.

but it just doesn't seem to work. It's VERY clogged up right now with my micros solution. I don't want another in-line device to clean, so the in-line dosing adapter is a 0/5 for me at the moment.
IMHE, everything that is inline will eventually clog even if water is flowing past it. Just too much bacteria and gunk in the piping.

My dosing lines drip over the top of the aquarium where I can easily use a toothpick if I see them gunking up.

I must also comment on how clean your setups are. Truly inspiring.

This is how I have my daily micro auto-dosing lines set up on my smaller tanks with a small 3d-printed bracket I designed:

They've been working for a year without issues! They keep the line out of the water to prevent buildup or a siphon, they're custom fit to the glass thickness, and they require two loose fitting zip ties to secure the dosing line.

I think I'll be removing the chihiros in-line dosing adapter, and just using one of these from now on on this large tank.

No, but I'll happily
  1. Provide the .stl file for free, OR
  2. Send you some in the mail if you cover the cost of shipping/postage and provide the glass thickness measurements!
Awesome! I’ll get back to you on that.

Day 138:

Got the Salifert Freshwater Potassium test kit, that's been super interesting! Turns out I was using up my potassium by the end of the week, so I started adding more.

Looking like an ADA brochure :)

I know the hydrocotyle is a favorite for many but it is going to take over the tank if I don't remove 90% of it!

A little preview of what's to come next 🤫:

Same 💯💯 I love those micro lily pads snaking up, I think they look awesome
chain agreeing here! In one tank my hydrocotyle vert stays extremely compact, but in another it follows a similar style, popping up here and there like lily pads. Noticed it get wider and longer in more shaded areas. The wildness adds to the charm, and feels more like what you would see in nature!

Gotta say, the transformation from 2.5 months in to 3.5+ months is astonishing!

Skylight Hyperspot FM lights
Alright where'd you get these lights at. I decided to do a 40gal behind my desk at work and don't want to be blinding people.

Also I love both scapes but I really love v1. I have always been a bigger fan of rock scapes/iwagumi/etc and that one just hits the spot for me. The aforementioned 40gal will most likely be a mix of rocks and wood but I am not 100% sure currently.

MJ Aquascaping did a review of those lights in one of his videos and I'd like to try them on an upcoming larger tank as well, but I think they are very hard to come by in the U.S. and also up near ADA Solar RGB price range.

I found them HERE. Said they were in LA.
