Literally, just finished a water change and some plant swaps for this 100. Nothing special but here is the most basic next Dutch scape. The way my brain works, get the plants in, the lines will be seen as things grow. Then, the wife and I will both begin to see where those line demand attention. This process continues until the final shot. I love posting these nonsensical pictures that eventually become something special.1000001576.webp

What was the biggest change you made that helped?
A massive reduction in light. Probably down to about 40PAR at the substrate. I also lowered Macro's by about 20%. This allowed the endless tank cleanings and spot dosing to get ahead of the algae returning. I would also move out plants to two other tanks that would clear this algae in a few weeks. I would then move large groups of healthy plants from those tanks back into the affected tanks to maintain plant mass. Oh, we were doing 80% water changes after each spot dosing session. The spot dosing was heavy and dangerous, so the 80% changes were required. But for sure, the immediate response was when the PAR was reduced.

I think you were probably like me. I had reduced my light 3 times and really thought I had a reasonable light level, but when I rented a PAR meter, I was still at like 160. I still have my light at the upper end of "normal light?" (who's to say what that is?) but I'm also trying to grow Blood Vomit and Erios. They often need it and more.

Not you, but I'm sure it is especially confusing for newbies these days to buy a high octane LED, crank it hard, and then be confused as to why their tank exploded into algae.

Yes, I'm questioning why we need such powerful lights. I'm going to see this lower light through and see how the plants respond.

I can think of some reasons. If you hang them, you need to have more light. Maybe the intention wasn't for us to be able to light a football stadium, but for us too have enough light in each channel to achieve the affect we want? But yeah, with a PAR meter and testing my light I got a PAR of 264. A bit crazy.

When I was in my formative years of this hobby, we struggled to get enough light. It has been difficult to un-train my brain that more is better.

Some progression photos of the 2025 AGA tank.

It's amazing how different it started and finished. More amazing, was the substrate swap 3 months before the deadline.

I honestly want to kind of recreate this one. Something about it says incredible potential.

I agree. With a better focal and couple other small tweaks its a masterpiece

Ive got the juice cranked on that Limno. Know what the monkey said when they cut his tail off? Wont be long now!!

She's starting to fill in a bit. Have a few plants just in random spots. I'll figure their positions in the coming week.

Side note, Christmas moss can survive for 2 weeks in a box! Limno, not so much.
