Still struggling these past few weeks. The 120 is looking better but the 100 is still in rough shape. I will say growth is picking up and @Burr740 and I are in agreement, dose the hell out of it. So that’s the plan. Interesting to see what happens.

Strange dust looking algae on the glass too. Much more difficult to scrape off oddly.

Is the 100 doing okay with CO2? Possibly a flow issue?
I upgraded the @Yugang reactor and getting a good drop. Pretty decent flow through the tank. The pump is quite powerful but have it lowered down. Seeing plant movement around the the tank. I just don’t know if this is damage from running the tank dry that’s trying to recover, or a different issue all together.

I haven’t done a degassed sample in a while. I’ll do one tonight. Might as well be thorough.

Hey man,

What are you using to graph your pH ?

Love following your posts, as always.

Cheers

How long was the tank dry?

I just pulled all my plants in the farm tank and did a diluted hydrogen peroxide dip this past weekend to kill all the thread algae, then lowered the light intensity. I feel like you know to keep the substrate clean and planting healthy tops but man that is taking over.

Probably several days over a week and a half.

That would be my guess to the algae outburst then probably just needs time to recover. Though you probably will want to get rid of it manually.

Just a quick update. Seems like the 100 is doing better, still have areas of algae but the tank seems to be growing now. Just a bit of higher Nitrates so testing every few days just to see if I'm going in the right direction. The farm tanks are looking decent and I'm rehabbing a few species hoping they survive. Ordered a ton of moss from APF, and received garbage. That will be my last order from them. Reached out to Aqua Rocks, ordered a ton of moss and it came in looking good. So I have 3 sheets of moss wall started in the 100 and 3 sheets on standby in the 120. Might as well do a moss wall now since the AGA still hasn't announced. If they do announce, I'll just do something in the 40 as it's doing quite well.

Over all, things are looking sad in this house but this has been a solid learning experience. Every disaster makes me a better gardener.

I ordered Aqua Rocks @Yugang reactor for the 100 and should have it installed next week. I’ll update once it’s running.
Is there much difference between the store purchased reactor and the one you made yourself? I did a normal top down reactor for my 600 and with very little co2 i was able to obtain a 1.5 ph drop; but then after a few months turned it off after all who wants to daily manage plants in a 600 :(

All the principles are the same, but the store bought one offers the adjustable plate (raise or lower pH). And the store bought are shiny and look nice. The clear version is wonderful simply because a glance is all that’s need to ensure operation. Store bought are now 4 inch diameter allowing the shorter length and all come standard with mounting brackets.

Ohhhhhh Lawwwwwwwd haaaaa mercy. I feel your pain, I’m struggling with mine but a reset is not in the cards. The maintenance schedule is whats killing me honestly.

What is the old/new substrate?
Old was BDBS. New is Netlea soil. Cost a fortune but so be it. Something was seriously off and as a beginner, I’m clueless to what. Nothing I was doing was improving the situation. So lights off while the ammonia spike happens. All fish and plant’s relocated. Trimmed all algae sections off and floating the decent portions throughout my 4 tanks. Hopefully the spike passes quickly with the already cycled media.
