OK, good, I assumed it was, but then wasn't sure. Nothing wrong with low-tech, but even with that plant least I think the additional growth and uptake is very beneficial and gives you some extra wiggle room with lights, etc.

Planning for a huge reset / re-scape. Could use some advice

With the way my tank is now, it's just not sustainable. Balancing hungry stems in only a portion of the tank with Epiphytes and HC covering the rest of it just didn't work. I was never able to hit a balance of nutrients.
I'm not even going to post a pic right now, because it looks like crap. The only saving grace to keeping it presentable is a completely overgrown and dominant Hygrophilia Pinnatifida that's covered half the tank. It looks pretty damned cool with the fish swimming in and around the jungle of branches, and I'm leaving the mass there to soak up excess nutrients.
I'm sure it's not that bad. I'm amazed you even have time for an aquarium after seeing that list of terrestrial animals that you take care of in the other thread.

I have such a routine that I keep to, that a normal day is only maybe 1.5 hours total split between morning and evening. My wife picks up a lot of it as well, so it's really not that bad. I do most of the heavy work with them on the weekends.I'm sure it's not that bad. I'm amazed you even have time for an aquarium after seeing that list of terrestrial animals that you take care of in the other thread.
