Welcome to ScapeCrunch

We are ScapeCrunch, the place where planted aquarium hobbyists come to build relationships and support each other. When you're tired of doom scrolling, you've found your home here.

Does anyone else feel this hobby leads to a mild hoarding problem? Here is my confession.

It's kind of surprising that good driftwood is hard to find.
I'm 5 mins from a huge river but can't collect driftwood now that it's a National Park.
Here in NC the issue is the few good hardwoods are rare to find and the pollution level in most of the state is substantial. I don't think me going after old growth rhododendron roots would be appreciated.

I don't normally do this, but here's a picture of my wood. For perspective, the aquarium stand behind it is about 50" long. I included my little bonsai tree that I'm working on for my 5g fish bowl and the scraps and "roots". Since the wood took up this whole photo, I'll post another photo of my stones. 😊

Not really sure if anyone wanted to see my stones, but here they are. Hauling these around is quite the workout. Sometimes I covet other stones. I'd really like some large high grade Seiryu, Blue Rhino, or Hakkai stone because I eventually want to create an Iwagumi scape. The collection I have though, is more than most of my local LFS's keep in stock.

I want that manten stone and I don't even have a need. I need an intervention
Interestingly, it's my least favorite. I ordered on sale from somewhere other than ARC and so I had no say in picking out pieces. Manten stone varies in color a lot and that's the case with what I received. Also, it just doesn't have much character. The pieces are large and could work in a "poor man's" Iwagumi if color was close, but I'm not sure what I will use these for if anything.

That's a bummer I want to do a stone heavy canyon scape one day.
