I'm thinking about setting up a carnivorous plant terrarium. I'm looking for a place to go like Scape Crunch to ask a few questions. My experience with aquarium forums has me leery of where I go for info. FaceBook is a :poop: storm. Reddit is slightly better. There are a couple forums, but I don't want to end up in a Planted Tank type situation where the wrong question gets me banned. Any suggestions?

FWIW: I've grown carnivorous plants in the past and had good luck with them. However, from what I can find, doing a terrarium might have a few different rules than just a fun pot garden outside.

I'm curious now, feel free to not answer, but what question got you banned from Planted Tank? Sounds like a story is there lol.

I don't know of any specific forums for it, maybe YouTube would have better luck? Reddit is "okay" IMO, as long as you can filter past the lower quality / terrible advice. At least it's a step up from Facebook.

There are a few posts here discussing the issues with other forums. There are other bad boys here besides Ben  . It doesn't take much at all to get banned by "for profit" forums. Just mention a product or brand name that doesn't sponsor them. I even had a post deleted by hinting at a Yugang Reactor .

Scape Curnch got started because of the banning problems on Planted Tank. It wasn't me. I'll let others who know better tell the story. Feel free to hijack my thread, but I'd still love some ideas if anyone has knows about the carnivorous plant community. @Art @GreggZ @Koan

YouTube is a good idea. I'll ask on Reddit. Maybe at least people can point me to some info.

Big brother is definitely watching. I hadn't even finished typing carnivorous and it suggested carnivorous plant terrarium on the Youtube search bar. A number of videos popped up.

Biggest issue for carnivorous plants indoors is to forget about venus fly traps. They are outside full sun plants and they need a dormancy period in the winter. That makes them terrible choices for a terrarium. Tropical pitcher plants and some species of sundews are your go-to.

Is this a plant only tank or will there be animals as well?

Sorry, that is an area I know nothing about.

This is true of Sarracenia (North American pitcher plants) in the long run. Some will live for a year or two with no dormancy but they will eventually fail. It's just most people take that 1 year as sign it works long term as so few keep things running for years. There are sundews that are fine and some hanging pitchers etc.

Hey. I went back and found some discussion. It sort of starts HERE and you need to skim down a page or so and it gets pretty 🔥 There are random comments peppered throughout Scape Crunch, but people have moved on more.

Not gonna lie, this is the spice my work day needed lol.

Good to see its all in the past. And glad that I didn't end up diving into that forum. I prefer my blind-leading-blind to be reddit flavored.

Glad to feed your 🌶️ need for the day. 😆

I'm with you. I was on Planted Tank but not active when all that was going on. My KH is < 1 out of the tap and with aquasoil, it drops to 0 overnight after a water change. So, if I had discussed that in a thread, I might have been banned too. Hence, when jumping into a carnivorous forum I wasn't familiar with, I didn't want to lead out with something taboo out of the gate.
