Well, I'm tankless at the moment due to circumstances so will post a few of my last ones. Nothing near the masterpieces of others but I try.

Had a Dutch-inspired a few years ago when I was trying different techniques. This one had a sump and I ran carbon to minimize water changes.

Then I moved to an apartment so I changed it up with a more fitting UNS 90 with more traditional equipment. I first wanted to go traditional aquascape with stone.

Then I said, forget it. I like the stems too much! Ended up with a Dutch-inspired, wabi sabi combination.

Thinking about what's next for me.

Thanks for poking me. I do need to keep my tank journal better updated. It's good for me too as it helps me think through things.

I'm currently in Charleston, South Carolina where we spent New Years. Traveling back today. Let's see what I find. I'll post an official "Post Vacation" picture.

Keep your fingers crossed that I don't get back to an algae jungle.

Bump!

Hmm, thanks for the reminder, guys. I forgot to post a picture. It wasn't too bad. Just overgrown.

I'll snap a pic and post it when lights come on.

Current status. Algae issues are gone. Focusing on stability and husbandry.

The strategy I use, as it’s a small tank, is to uproot and clean a quarter of the tank at a time. Front left was yesterday. Top left is next week.

As you can see, I’m slowly reducing the number of plants as I prefer each plant to show its true beauty. Still working on the ones I want to focus on and work for my tank and layout.

I love that bush of Stauro, I’ve never had it grow that tall but I carpeted it a long time ago in a shallow tank.

I'm not sure if it comes across but it's about 4 inches tall at the moment. In my experience, more intense light will cause it to stay down more.

Do you have an ecotech on this tank? It looks like one from the earlier pictures.

Is it turned all the way down?

The plants all look good.

It's been a while and a lot has happened. Dealing with a cancer diagnosis and subsequent surgery has resulted in a neglected tank.

Sensing the upheaval, my old nemesis, BBA, invaded with colonization in mind. Of course, my CO2 ran out the day I went into surgery so the tank has been running sans-CO2 for three weeks... Don't you always seem to run out of CO2 at the worst times? Usually vacations for me.

I'm sensing a restart in my summer plans.

I was hoping it was something other than cancer. It’s terrible to hear it is. There’s nothing I can say because the next 5 years are going to be the worst. Just try to stay head strong and push through it. My wife and I will be thinking of you and your family.

I spent four weeks recovering from surgery then had three weeks of business travel. I got back today.

In an effort to be open about what this hobby can be, the good and bad, this is the how I found the tank:

Please try to zoom in and get a good look. Painful.

Of course, the CO2 ran out long ago but the remainder of the tank’s automation kept it from becoming a total mess. BBA has almost completely taken over.

I post this in the hopes that anyone struggling out there can find some comfort and reassurance. We’ve all been there and even after years in the hobby, it can turn on you.

I now need to decide how to turn it around and bring it back to a flourishing tank. Stay tuned.

Hope you’ve been well.

Good to hear from you, I hope you get back on track soon

Hey Art good to hear an update and I hope you are doing well after surgery.

I wouldn't worry too much about the tank, you know how to turn it around. Sometimes life gets in the way and you need to focus on other priorities. Right now your wellness is all that matters. Again hope you are doing well and your recovery keeps going smoothly.
