Journal 120 Dutch Ft. Yugang Reactor (Horizontal CO2 Reactor)

I’ve come to a decision, I’m abandoning the 120 for the AGA. The issue is it’s impossible to win with it. Too many fish I’m unwilling to move and the 18.2 inch depth is growing more and more irritating. Also, the defect prevents me from doing the big water changes in one go. If I miss the AGA, so be it but I figure I’ll have about 6 weeks. Another notable issue is the Netlea AT6’s have ruined the visual appeal of the WA P’s.

The 120 will become the farm tank and the fish retirement home. I will continue practicing Joe’s fertilizer regiment there and return to front loading with the 150.

Here’s the new canvas as of today. I have a ridiculous amount of work ahead of me.

What's the defect preventing you from doing the big water changes?
Back black divider was designed poorly and separated from the glass. So when draining the tank, the back chamber water pressure presses it out and if I do more than a 50% water change it puts a tremendous amount of pressure on it. I warrantied the tank but ended up selling it to get some money back for this BS. Eventually this tank will be replaced with something else.

I see, what a PITA. Thanks for explaining that to me man.

Hi, I’m catching up on a lot. Can you tell me more about this? I use Netlea’s too.
They just look so good and sharp. The reds seem truer if you will. I’m sure it’s just personal choice but they make the tank look crisp. The WA are great, but they make the colors glow versus sharp.

I did what I could with the few hours I had. The recent news slowed me down but it’s cleared out and some plants are back in. I just need to get some reds in and get her cleaned up. Lots of water changes in my future.IMG_0396.webp

Ladies and gentlemen, in a few short days…I believe I have a solid templet for an AGA Dutch tank. I’m confident I’ll make it after a few corrections.IMG_0405.jpeg
The lily and Myrio are an obvious issue. Plant count is a bit beyond the recommended and the Lobelia isn’t looking good but damn, the decision to make the swap on tanks was correct.

I may have discovered a decent sized mistake which could be the source of my recent GDA issues. I semi recently switched dosing over to @Burr740 method and as far as plant health, it’s been great. But here’s what I discovered; Wednesday was water change day and I set out to do a near 100% water change on the competition tank. I filled over 120 gallons of RO water and got to draining. I left maybe 8 gallons of water in the sump (maybe 8 gallons, best guess) and a small layer of water in the display for the fish. Started filling and wouldn’t you know I, used maybe 60 gallons to fill the tank! Lol, I am pretty sure I’ve been dosing way too much because I was basing my numbers off of 100 gallons 😆.

So with this information, the competition tank is going back to front loading and I will continue to practice what @Burr740 does with the 120. I don’t have KCL so his method I’ve modified for K2SO4.

I chopped the comp. tank down so no picture to share, but the 120 is now a plant junk yard. IMG_0431.webp

Yeah, when I stopped front loading is when the GDA showed up. I’m sure I’ve always assumed too many gallons in all my tanks.
So when you were front loading, were you also dosing based on your incorrect assumption of the water volume of your tank?

I'm trying to learn, not criticise. When dosing Burrs method, what are you thinking caused the GDA, too much or too little nutrients?

No, because I dose my storage containers and I know the exact volume of each container. So as long as I changed a large amount of water (very close to 90% visually) my numbers were accurate. Well, more accurate then now 😆
