Baffles really aren't necessary, I'm just going to use my sump for prefiltering and hiding mechanicals, and throw in a couple bags of biomedia for fun.
ye for us freshwater folk we dont really need em lmao

I'm using a rollermat for pre-filtering, which is if not the coolest invention (Yugang still has my vote) then by far the coolest new Gadget in the hobby in years 💯💯💯💯

are you gonna make a cap/lid for your roller filter to prevent co2 degassing? I wanted to throw one of these or the redsea one in my sump but that never panned out due to heigh restrictions lol

@SingAlongWithTsing I definitely have trickle noise where the water is entering the sump. How would I silence this or reduce the noise?
Is this your sump?
Sump
Volume Capacity - 57 Gallons
Dimensions - 38.6"L x 18.8"W x 18.3"H
Filtration - 3x Filter Media Cups with High Performance Fiber Ball Media
Protein Skimmer Chamber - 16.3"L x 11.4"W
Protein Skimmer Cover Plate Opening - 9" Diameter
Refugium Chamber - 16.3"L x 11.9"W
Return Pump Chamber - 15.3"L x 6.5"W
Plumbing -
3x 1" PVC Bulkheads
1x 3/4" PVC Bulkhead with Hose Barb Fitting
1x Reversible 1/4" to 1/2" ATO Reurn Hose Barb

Maybe a thin piece of foam over the cup section of your sump might be enough to get it to be quiet.
Option 2 is to add foam pads above the fiber ball stuff they gave you.
Option 3 is to raise the water level height in that section.
Option 4 is to replace the fiber ball media they got in there with just foam pads or pot scrubbers.

On my diy sump the water exits about 1" below the water line in the "silent chamber" and flows over on to the polyfil on top of the foam blocks. The distance between my mechanical media and the spill over is pretty short, like about 1".

Yes, that’s the sump. I’m going to try all your suggestions tonight. Thank you.

Not to start with, I'll wait and see how much of a problem it really is.. I seem to remember Tom Barr was at one time a fan of the full-on wet/ dry trickle filter, you don't get much more outgassing than that 😆

Well shucks, noob mistake. My overflow box prevents the use of the nice hanging kit I bought. I will need to DIY a frame. Won't know how sexy these lights are for about a week. Solid 1.3pH drop using the ARC (Aqua Rocks Colorado) Yugang reactor . I still need to optimize a few things and get the sump closed up a bit more. Otherwise, it works great.

How long is the level? Thats probably about 1/8" off if you raise the level to the level position

If thats a 4' level then its only off that much over 4'. If its a 12" torpedo level then its off 1/8" for every foot which means the whole tank is off 1/2-5/8

But either way youre gonna want the tank dead level, for aesthetics if nothing else

Shim or okay?
You may want to fill the tank with just an inch of water, and measure the level in all 4 corners. When fully filled, that's what you're going to see at the surface as well. Mechanically it probably is insignificant, but as @Burr740 says you may not like it aesthetically if it is more than a mm or so off.

24ish inch level? I went ahead and shimmed it. It’s damn close to perfect now.

Ah, I will pay attention to this. Never even crossed my mind.

Feeling a bit of confidence now with the scape. I’m feeling my style/ interpretation of Dutch coming together. Novice interpretation that is! Still some clutter from substitute plants but I’m liking things so far. I pulled the Lobilia, and going with the trusty Serphyllum as the street. image000000.webp

The lily is coming along nice, is it micranthra? Pich the biggest leaves off if/when they get unruly. New ones usually come in better

I had/ have Micranthra and a Green Tiger. I thought this was the Tiger, but it’s very possible the Micrantha split on me when I grabbed, what I thought was, the green tiger.
