What did you do to your tank(s) today?

I don’t grow enough beard to have that on hand, but I’m actually about to 3d print one thats very similar but maybe more ergonomic for using at the bottom.
Before I got around to printing something, I saw a plastic fork laying around and gave it a try. Quite ergonomic and works pretty well. Don't think I will need to print anything anymore.

The tiny farm tank is officially full. I seem to have run wild knowing I had somewhere to put all the “that’s neat but I don’t have a place for it in the current tank” plants. I need to finish gluing lava rock together and get the 30c running so I can move some things. Today’s additions took a LOT of juggling to fit in the farm tank.

Been there, done that. Fortunately, I just harvested a bunch from the farm for the new 60cm tank. Updates to that journal coming soon.

Studying grouping...!

Things are growing in, i adjusted a lot of the Co2 + Lighting to be more intense and the growth has exploded these last 2 weeks.

Focusing on grouping, and going to change some plants out... Trim time for the lobelia soon, going to expand that street to where the Pogo downoi is.

Good start overall, now to refine.

Did a replant of the stems at the back of my 11G today.

Always amazed by how much plant mass I get out of the little 2x10" area that they are planted in at the back.

Threw away most of them because hair algae has been infesting, especially on Ludwigia Arcuata, and kept only the healthiest tops.

Planted about half of these back in and the rest are just extra to other homes. How close do you plant your stems together?

50% water change and continuing to trim off dying leaves of my pinnatifida. It was doing well and then abruptly just started dying. Tiny new growth on the top so not a total loss.

Also became a member of the Missouri Aquarium Society so I can read their magazine (“The Darter”). They were nice enough to send back issues and my gosh what an amazing resource.

Found that the brush that came with my old coffee grinder worked well to remove filamentous algae.

P.Decannensis seems to have this cycle as whenever i cut the healthy tops and replant it; it branches out from the tip and seems to deprive the part beneath the branches which get algae, and also forms an extensive root system.

Never had luck with L.Arcuata in my set up and it always melted away. But the rest looks like rotalas which seems to take bunching well so could plant 2-3 together. I have seen people state to plant them individually and have also seen them do larger bunch as well. My one observation is that aerial roots tend to form if you space them apart too much. I tend to plan them 1 by 1 but rather close to each other.

That's good to know!! My Arcuata actually grow a bit like weed and need more trimming than others. Aerial roots have been growing a lot on rotala HRA and macranda, maybe I will need to plant them denser.

My 75G is/was a plant only scape. See first picture below.
Rather than doing the usual weekly maintenance and water change, I decided to go a step further.
The second pic is where I ended up at the end of the day lol.

Luckily I had a spare/empty 75G which is where the fish are, with the cannister filter running on that.
So I can take a day or two.

I set up all of the low-tech tanks with Chihiros autodosers (shared) and @Burr740 ’s low-tech ferts. I put a stirrer under the shared doser, but I’m just going to shake the one for the BiOrb weekly since it’s all by itself. I had one head left for the shared doser, so I used a 5 gallon water bottle to add extra RO water to the Hillstream tank daily. It has so much surface agitation that I have to add 2-3 gallons a week between water changes.

Then I made mesh lids for the Hillstream tank. I’m not completely happy with them. I had trouble getting the mesh to lay flat and they’re just so . . . visible. I think they’ll do the job for now though, and later I’ll try again, but with black mesh.

Hmm, I hadn't thought about this but I have a couple empty channels. I don't have room for a 5 gallon bucket, but I can squeez in a couple gallon jugs which is about what I need on the main tank each week. Did you just guestimate what your daily ATO dose needs to be?

I copied the idea from someone here, but I don’t remember who it was. I’m just starting off with 250 ml/day to see how that does. I expect I’ll need to at least double it. Trial and error will let me fine-tune it. I expect it may vary a bit with the seasons as well.

Yeah, I'm losing at least twice as much water now with the furnace and fireplace going.

I've been topping off water with a spare dosing head for years. I use a big plastic bin filled with water. I guesstimated first, then tuned a few times. I also find that it takes a lot less water to top off in summer because the humidity is much higher.

Stand organization. Nothing like half your body underneath the tank, inside the stand drilling holes. Made a bracket to hang the power strip off of. Will have to order more wire velcro things to tidy up the wiring. Also added a bracket on the side and put 3M cord grip holder to hang all the tools.

If any vendors are lurking - Hint Hint Hint: Design something to hide all the wires.
