Thank you, plant selection is something I seriously struggle with, and here's to NOT burying all the hardscape! Now I want to scape a redwood forest, though. Before wildfire chased us out a few years ago, we lived in the redwoods for over 30 years, along the coast range in Santa Cruz. There were areas of our last property where the redwood canopy was so dense that only that shamrock-like plant would grow at the base of the trees, and was one of my favorite native groundcover plants. Redwood Sorrel (
Oxalis oregana). Marsilea is a great choice, not only in leaf structure, but also in scale. I don't know if you got to see Redwood Sorrel in bloom while you were at Muir Woods, but it has lovely delicate pink flowers (ancient photo from my blogging days). They are often missed because the petals stay closed on cloudy and rainy days.
