Love the stand. But I can see the wife not liking it. 😊
Thank you! And yes, I can also see why she doesn't like it, but it's not a big deal to her. Thankfully she's really cool about and supportive of my hobbies.

Nice! But you need some Powerveg 660's in there!!

Funny you mention that, because I ordered a couple Powerveg 660s that should be arriving any day now. I also wanted to get some Powerveg 633, but they seem sold out most places. In addition to the 660s, I have an ATI purple plus and a couple Geismann super floras on the way.

Right now my array is (front to back):
Wave Point Sun Wave
3000k
Wave Point Ultra Growth Wave
Wave Point Sun Wave
3000k
Geismann Super Flora

I'm not sure what the new arrangement will be, but the Powerveg 660 will for sure be in there!

You are speaking my language. I might have a line on the 633's. I'll know more on Monday.

@GreggZ update on the Powerveg 660s. They finally arrived after weeks. I ordered 660s but the seller sent 633s. The seller wrapped them in a single sheet of paper and sent them in a packing envelope. They of course arrived completely pulverized.

Wow that sure is some seller you found!!! Don't think I've ever seen anything like it.

I am pretty sure @ryancamaratta bought some recently and had a good experience. Maybe he can chime in.

And I have a local hydroponics shop that had loads of Powerveg bulbs the last time I was there but they don't ship. I've been meaning to get over there to pick up some 660's the last few weeks but haven't had the time.

Just had to read the whole journal when I saw Gregg tagged me out, the old Dutch layout is beautiful man lots of good stuff here. Following for sure.

Excited to see someone else running the same kind of fixture as me too! Love the sunpowers...I'll have to pick your brain for tips on replacing the sockets, I got mine second hand from a reefer who said it was only two years old but there's really no way of telling; I really like the ability to just take the housing off and fix issues, especially coming from LED. I'm rocking a Giesemann purple and superflora in the mix too, and actually thinking about doubling up on one or the other to see how it effects the final rendition--that purple bulb is something else and does alot for a tank.

That's super bad luck with the 633s man I'm sorry to see that, this was my experience when trying to find PV 420's.

The search for the elusive Power Veg 660nm continues...I've heard some people say they're disco'd like @Art mentioned above, but I've also heard a couple rumors along the lines of them still being in production and just not super available. One point to take into consideration, usually you can find obnoxiously large wholesale sizes available so, if anyone ever wants to go in on a massive Power Veg order, well you know how to reach me 😅 Gregg, you're a lucky man with that local pickup option for sure.

So I had good luck with a small grow op down in Oklahoma believe it or not is where I finally found the Power Veg 660's. The site is mrgreenok.com

It seems like a pretty small shop, I called and spoke to the owner to see if I could verify the inventory listed on their site (shot myself in the foot a lot before this by ordering from sites that showed them in stock, only to have them take money off my card and email me a week later to tell me it was an inventory error and they hadn't carried those lights in a long time.)

He put me on hold and physically checked, pulled the bulbs out of their packaging to verify they were 660's...really cool guy. Anyway, I got maybe a total of 5 bulbs from them over two different orders. Both packaged incredibly well, the second order was a single Power Veg 420nm and it was packed in bubble wrap and one of those carboard tubes the same way a huge pack of multiple bulbs would be. I had also discussed with them over the phone what would happen if a bulb was broken in shipping and they said no questions asked they'd offer either full refund or just resend the bulb(s) in question.

I talked to him quite a few times and he's confident he can order them in at any time, I would give them a call and have them check inventory! Cool people, good service, fast shipping. I tried about 25-30 places before I found 660's, no exaggeration. I'm also running 4ft and I think you're looking for 2ft, so I'm not sure which one's harder to find but I know for sure that neither one is easy to track down haha.

My main interest in the hobby for a while now is the classic Dutch style of aquascaping represented in the NBAT competition.
This is brand new to me, now I have to read up on NBAT--thank you for another rabbit hole to dive down, I mostly go through old AGA Dutch category results

Thanks @ryancamaratta! Really appreciate the tip on the Powerveg 660s. Seems like you found an A+ seller. I already pulled the trigger on a couple more bulbs from a different website, but after hearing your experiences I am expecting they'll tell me they don't actually have them in stock. If that ends up being the case I'm going to give mrgreenok a call. Some of the other bulbs I ordered came in, so now I have a purple, light blue, two pink, and two orange. This is pretty close to how I like it, but ideally I want to swap out one of the oranges for a true red.

I like the ATI fixture a ton. It has served me well for years. Only recently has it been a pita. I do like the fact that the housing can be removed for repairs, and the folks at ATI are helpful. I think I've removed and replaced that housing 10 times over the last month. I'm a pro at it now if you ever have any questions. Actually, I have to do it one more time when I get a chance to replace the other six sockets. Only did half the fixture on the first run. Then hopefully that will be it for a while 🤞

The NBAT competition is the national competition in the Netherlands where the Dutch masters compete. They refer to the competition as 'inspections,' because the judges visit the competitors' homes to inspect their aquariums and judge them based on multiple criteria.

The top entries in the AGA Dutch category are good, but so many of the entries below that don't truly exemplify the Dutch style. The NBAT inspection is the gold standard. This page on Bart Lauren's website, which there's a good chance you've seen, is an excellent resource. Towards the bottom of the page, he presents many nice examples of Dutch style tanks, all of which are from NBAT competitors.

PowerVeg 660s arrived undamaged from the new seller, and damn is it glorious.

Would you mind sharing where you had it shipped from? Always on the lookout for more companies carrying them.

Happy it arrived in good condition 💪 what's the new bulb combo gonna look like with the 660 in the mix?

I ordered them from growgeneration.com, and they arrived in about 5 days.

New bulb combo is (back to front):
Geismann Super Flora
PowerVeg 660
Wave Point Ultra Growth Wave
Geismann Super Flora
3000k
ATI Purple Plus

Pretty happy with how this combo looks. I can definitely notice a difference in how the reds pop with the PowerVeg 660 in there.

What combo are you running in yours?

What kind of color does the wave point give? I ask because our combos are pretty similar lol

Front to back:
Giesemann Tropic
Giesemann Superflora
AgroMax 3000K
Power Veg 660nm
Power Veg 420nm
Giesemann Purple

I switched phones yesterday so I don't have a lot of pics on hand right now but my build thread is linked ...I've probably changed the combo since the last update though 😅

Beautiful tank! Thanks for linking the build thread!

The WavePoint Sun Wave is a 12,000k bulb that puts out a light blue similar to, but to me slightly less blue, than an ATI Aquablue Special. I've tried a darker blue in there like an ATI Blue Plus, but it makes it too cool for my taste. I prefer a warmer look. My current approach for bulbs is to have an even mix of cool, pink, and warm, and to make sure the cools and warms are adjacent. Hence, the current pattern of pink-red-blue-pink-orange-purple.

FYI I thought you and @ryancamaratta would like this.

I finally got a chance to stop by my local hydroponics store. I am lucky they still have cases of Powerveg bulbs. 660's, 420's, 633's, 460's, UV's....everything. I may have to go back and corner the market someday!!!:D

Brb guys, stopping at Gregg's place quick
😂😂

LOL you might remember I talked about putting together a group buy a while back. But the problem is I would have to pack and ship them and would hate it if any broke. But if someone was desperate I do have the mother load right down the road from me.
