Journal Thread 'Trying to make a high-end aquascape from scratch'

Hey folks, this marks the first time I've had more than one journal at a time, but I'm beginning work on a new 120x60 low-iron, rimless aquascape. I've been inspired by Hendy8888 and @Naturescapes_Rocco to try to make a really high quality stand. I have tried making a stand before, but it was a 2x4 stand with reclaimed wood facing, and it ended up looking pretty amateur. I'm trying to go high-end on this one in part because I want to be able to build cabinets for various projects around the house, and my wife will be less upset if I botch a fish tank stand than if I botch a new...

This journal was so helpful! Also I felt all your tuition paid haha we have all been there, and usually our first big projects is where we pay the most LOL my first was an entrainment center 10 years ago and I learned about the blade kerf on that one lol

The Stand looks great btw! I think we have finally decided the whole wall /stand will be white oak. So I’m trying to get a Final Cut list together and wrap up the model to go get the plywood. I do plan on recording the process (not a lot of good videos I found on YouTube) at least not from a woodworking perspective, if that makes any sense. I’ll also start a journal on here as well.

The model so far so it can give a better idea of what I’m going for. Right now I’m troubleshooting the design for the bookcase shelves to leave some room for lily pipes and access to the tank etc. which I may just switch to floating shelves instead just for ease

Build officially started, some changes I made was to use cabinet grade maple ply vs white oak for the whole project and the end result will be painted. I should have the tank by the end of the week

That saw and guide you have looks it's perfect for cutting up plywood. Is that Milwaukee? What kind of saw/guide?

Yeah it’s a Milwaukee track saw, with powertec tracks. For breaking down sheet goods, track saws are amazing.
