I also use a simple system. Mine has a dual overflow into baskets filled with filter floss. This makes it easy to swap out weekly.
This overflows into bags filled with K2 bio balls. The center one is where the pump is along with the ATO sensor. I have my temp and pH probes in one of the chambers.
Yep, a thin base layer that will comprise the new pond soil, some of my old to seed bacteria, and probably some peat and worm castings. It’ll be capped with AS.

A work associate is a fish focused aquarist and uses sumps on all his tanks. I mentioned using rollers to him and he insists socks are far easier to maintain.
I always ditch the socks and build a platform for hold flat filter floss. It’s pretty easy to do. I have a template and cut a bunch out at a time. I switch it out once a week. I am currently cutting them out now.
