pH was 6.5 at peak last night and my sensitive fish stressed at 5.25 so I settled on 5.3 today. Went back into the tank and spread everything out because I had a few too many Trapisters.
I can already say that BDBS is a delight to plant in and I’m excited for what will come.
My only complaint is my hands oddly hurt. This getting old business is for the birds.IMG_0751.webp

Looking good already. The black really made a difference.

I cut myself a little bit on my hands when I put changed my sub out to MTS and BDBS . It’s an abrasive after all so I expected it. Could be why your hands hurt and not your age LOL

How did you take out the old substrate? Scoop it out with a net or shop vac? I’m going to redo my 40 gallon shrimp tank this spring. It’s just plain gravel and I’m undecided how I want to get it out. First chore is rounding up the shrimp.

I used a plastic measuring cup to scoop out the bulk of it then used a plastic dust pan with a rubber lip for the remaining.

Tank is looking great!

Looks like the swap went well. I expected it would. Sometimes people make to much of something like this.

And those plants look like they bounced back quickly. You should be back on cruise control in no time!

Well, 2 days ago one of my WA lights went out. Not even a year old. They are thinking it’s the V3 Bluetooth module. I ordered a replacement as I don’t want to wait for the RMA process. Fingers crossed this is a quick fix. My Stellata is already upset.

Oh man that’s horse 💩, I’ve had my Twinstar since 2020. I know your ordered the part already but I’d still go through the process to get an extra one in case another goes out, what crap for how much we spend on these things.
I am, but I need it going asap. Hopefully, this is the fix and don’t have to send the light in.

I missed this until just now. Basically what @FrankZ said above. Traditional Dutch tanks have an encasement around them, or some kind of trim. Your substrate sorta jumps out being light colored, in Bart's eye there should be a trim piece going across the bottom to hide that two inch colored line from the substrate

I do it too, mainly for the sides because my sub is always black bdbs or dark aquasoil. What I use is 1.5" trim strips painted black, attached with double sided tape

You can barely tell the bottom of this one has it but it hides the moss panel ends on the sides, which would be very unsightly otherwise

Did it two years ago on the rimless 75P as well. The without picture is mostly cropped but you can see the difference it makes

Thats what he's talking about ;)
That's genius. No idea how I've never thought of that before

Light is fixed. The Bluetooth module was the issue. Hopefully no issues pop up over the next week. Aqua Rocks Colorado better make this right by replacing the defective one.

Tomorrow is maintenance day and I’m hoping to get a base layout going so there’s a bit more visual direction.

Looks like WeekAqua does not cover the Bluetooth module. When it’s time replace these, I’ll be looking elsewhere.

Props to Aqua Rocks Colorado, they will send me a spare module when I get something else from the store. I do use them quite a bit for aquarium needs.

Sadly most of these type lights are imported without any support.
I only use quality lights for a company that makes their own light.
GHL is a German aquarium computer company. They make all their own equipment in house.

Those are very aesthetically pleasing too 😆,

@Art doesn’t know this, but he’s testing Netlea for me. If he gives them the thumbs up, I’ll give them a shot.

Big maintenance day yesterday. It’s looking like GDA is poking back in but this time my water isn’t cloudy. Hopefully this is just from the swap and passes with time. I continue to eliminate 1 or 2 plants a week and I’m starting to find some lines I like and will try to develop them as things begin to take shape. The African Water Fern is doing really well and I’m trying my best to make it work as a highlight plant. I’ve never seen it used in Dutch but then again, I’m new to Dutch and haven’t seen many Dutch tanks. The Spatulata is doing really well and remains one of my favorite plants. I actually got it from Joe Harvey a while ago and managed to keep it alive in my QT tank with no CO2. It was covered in BBA and deformed, but it is making a huge come back.

I also started a Serphyllum hedge and want to see if I can make it a curtain plant. I would like to use it on both sides, but I'm not sure how it would count towards the rules. Is it one plant or considered a moss wall? And if I used it on both sides, would it violate 2 plants used in the scape rule? @Burr740 might know?IMG_0783.jpg
