Today I had an RO unit installed, mainly for use on this tank, but also for drinking water.
I went with a super delux model - it’s tankless (cleaner, less maintenance), electric (which makes it pretty fast) has no remineralizing cartridge, does 800gpd, has a built in uv sterilizer and tds meter on both the under sink housing and the faucet. It has an amazing 3gal pure to 1gal waste ratio.
It cost a lot, but money … meh! I got a plumber to install it because I needed a hole drilled in my sink and a couple of other small plumbing issues to take care of.
How has this RO system worked out for you? Considering something similar.

It’s great. This is the brand and model I bought:
Waterdrop G3P800 | Tankless Reverse Osmosis Water Filter with UV Sterilization

I use it for all my drinking water as well, re-mineralizing it with trace minerals:

Aussie Trace Minerals Canada

I like the tankless feature, no fear of bacterial growth in the storage container, and it is super easy to change the cartridges. However, if you want to use it for a bigger fish tank, it would be pretty slow to refill. It’s fine for my 10 g tank and for a litre here and there for drinking.

Thanks so much. I have a 150gpd RO from Bulk Reef Supply that I use for my tanks AND for drinking water. It’s sort of a pain filling jugs for drinking then bringing those to the kitchen. And then making sure I don’t run out. And having them overflow because, unlike the Brute can, they don’t have float valves. So I’m looking to get an under the sink version to be used just for drinking. Maybe the G3P600 would be enough for that???

Absolutely. I got the 800 in case I needed more capacity for the future - I don’t think I will ever need that much water in a day, though! I also got the optional UV filter, so there is no question that this is the cleanest and purest water possible (possibly more redundant overkill, lol).

I was doing the weekly water changes and maintenance on my four tanks and spontaneously decided to tear down the Shrimp Playground/ Metaframe tank.
I was feeling like I needed to cut back on the amount of work everything was taking and I hardly ever even look at this tank because of it’s room location and that I needed to put on stronger glasses to even see the shrimp! That, plus the riccia and hydrocotyle were totally taking over and were also riddled with algae.
I removed all the plants and hardscape and netted out about 100 shrimp which divided between my betta tank and my other big tank with guppies, neon tetras, glass catfish and angels. The angels picked off a few right away, but I think some will survive in the dense jungle planting.
I’ll put the tank in storage for now, but who knows what project I might come up for it with in the future!
Here’s something interesting, though. This is the arbour that I built with craft wood sticks - after a year and a half the glue held up okay but the thin slats on the sides made out of coffee stirrers pretty much completely dissolved and the top pieces were on their way! I guess that wood just doesn’t last long underwater : )
