This isn't a Journal, although it may become one. I am relatively new member here and thought I should introduce my tanks.

THis one has been running much like this for around 3 years and was my first serious planted tank. Possibly surprising since I have been a keen aquarist for around 50 yeas. I had simply labelled myself as someone who kills plants and got on with plastic plants the best I could.

60x40x40 tank
lighting - 22W Hygger luminiare
FIltration - 3 double sponge filters
Water - RO remineralised with Salty Shrimp Bee Minerals GH+ to around 6 dGH, zero dKH .
substrate - inert Dennerle diamond black gravel (1-2 mm grain size). Bolused injection of compost/aquasoil in places for root nutrition (this is a recent addition to replace root tabs).
Water column ferts - weekly dry salts using Rotala Butterfly Low light EI weekly dosing schedule.
No CO2 addition.

PLants .........
Java ferns
various Anubias sp.
Bucephalandra kedegang. THis loves this tank and flowers constantly.
Cryptocoryne wendtii “broad leaf”
Cryptocoryne undulatus red
Lindernia rotundifolia
Myriophyllum mattogrossense
Rotala colorata

All these species love this tank. I had Ludwigia palustris "super red" in here for ages, but it was always leggy and leaves were constanly algae-covered so I removed it all. I would ideally like a splash of red in there somewhere. Any suggestions gratefully received !!

Shrimp .......
Neocaridina - various
Caridina babaulti (green and zebra)
Caridina cantonensis/serrata Taitibees (my own line)

FIsh .......
10 x Dwarf pencilfish. These voraciously eat all shrimplets below around 8mm in length, so all shrimp are stocked as adults or larger juvies from other tanks, and are ignored by the pencilfish.
5 x Boraras urophthalmoides
3 x Otocinclus
4 x pygmy corys
2 KHuli loaches

Heres a few more close up pics

Love the marginatus pencil fish, they are my favorite 😁

I'm surprised to hear them more aggressive hunting shrimplets than the Boraras are 🤔 Do you find they keep the shrimp populations down equally? Even the neocaradinas are not reproducing fast enough to get ahead?
