Welcome to ScapeCrunch

We are ScapeCrunch, the place where planted aquarium hobbyists come to build relationships and support each other. When you're tired of doom scrolling, you've found your home here.

I wasted a few brain cells tonight.

The sheep of the world see 340,000 subscribers and he has instant legitimacy.
Heck, most beginners go on youtube and find somebody they latch onto as their expert…

Its part of being a newbie..

I was swayed by the “Master Aquatic Horticulturist”. By golly that sounds like an awfully impressive title… in my mind it meant doctoral work on plant physiology…

Reality of what was involved to get it was a bit of a let down…

I actually was having doubts over the guruship as I watched tours of his fishroom and the simple tricks each tank was going to get to clear up the algae…

I never saw any follow up tours where the problems were fixed…

But by golly there were an awful lot of tours for the next simple fix….

I ran across the 2 hr aquarist site several times, but he was saying different things than the Master Aquatic Horticulturist…

After a while it dawned on me that the Master Aquatic Horticulturist did not have a single tank I would be happy with…

No need to worry about water chemistry or anything else.
"Water adapts itself to meet the needs of it's inhabitants"

Yeh of course didn't you know water has a "memory" :ROFLMAO:

I was looking for a quote that summed up the masses for this situation.
From Gustave Le bon "The masses have never thirsted after truth. They turn aside from evidence that is not to their taste, preferring to deify error, if error seduce them."

Water is alive!

I asked AI search if Father Fish claims water is alive. Ai responded that Father Fish believes water is part of a living ecosystem and responds to it but does not claim it is alive…

I provided a link to this video and asked it to answer the same question in response to the transcript…

It admitted it was wrong and softened the answer.

It then said AI is most useful when you can easily check the answers.

I asked why on earth would I bother using it if I have to then go and fact check every answer it gives me?

This is a trend. I have been querying AI searches using a couple of them and found dozens upon dozens of confidently provided factually innacurate answers. And soft pedaling the answers is also a trend with it..

Asking AI to analyze a question is worthless. Asking it to find specific references has some utility. I have been able to make use of it to dig up some resources for me that would be harder with a standard internet search..

Well, it’s an algaecide. Where people go wrong is thinking it adds any significant amount of CO2 to their tanks, as the companies advertise it wrongly.

It is not that difficult to maintain a tank free of visible algae without daily dosing gluteraldehyde compounds to it. I really do not want to be sticking my hands and arms into tanks dosed with gluteraldehyde in it or breathing the fumes as the gluteraldehyde gasses out of the tank.

I used to dose gluteraldehydes daily and never really noticed significant algae control benefit from it. Once I learned how to grow healthier thriving plants I discovered I really didnt even need it…
