I have enjoyed my little 8 gallon planted tank and have made plans to start a 20 gallon this spring/summer. We needed some bigger end tables so I am building them as aquarium stands. One will be used for my new 20 gallon. These will be capable of holding anything that has a 2’x2’ footprint. They will have backing for mounting power strips and dosing pumps. The finished looked will match my reef tank stand to help tie in everything in the living room.

It also gives me a great opportunity to work with my sons.

The rough structure was completed today.

Tables were trimmed out today. I also made the floor panels and doors. In order to keep it to an appropriate height I made a recess opening for my CO2 tank. This will also stabilize the tank. Hopefully this weekend I will get all of the hardware in and complete the mock up build. Then wood filler, sand, and paint.

I am building the tops separately. They will be removeable. I can make this into a large tank stand or desk should my needs change. The tops will also be stained and coated with polyurethane which will better withstand water damage.

They are finished, Just in time for Mother’s Day! Extra storage for my wife, and aquarium stand for me. I really liked how they turned out. I feel they match the decor of my living room and match my reef tank really well. I like working with 2x4s when building aquarium stands. It will last for ever and gives me excellent backing for mounting outlets, dosing pumps, etc.
