Journal Blyxa Bonanza

So the Blyxa japonica in my 40B tank had to be thinned. I had nowhere to put all of it so … new tank!

Fzone 6.4gal, 17.7 x 11.8 x 7.1 inches
Light: Lominie Asta 20
Filter: dug around in my box and added a Nicrew HOB. Then replaced it with an old Aquaclear 20. Not sure if I will leave it but I do want some flow … so maybe.
Substrate: leftover PFS
Plants: Blyxa! Will prob add some other grass type plants after I see what I have stashed away.
Hardscape: River rocks and manzanita. Also old. Not sure if the wood is staying or not.

It’s a small tank so I doubt I will put fish in it. I have ramshorn snails and red neocaridina in nearly every tank in the house so I’d like something different. Suggestions?

Thanks! I have no plan for this tank so I expect a bit of meandering before it comes together.

I don’t really know anything about them so thanks for the tip. Not sure any fish will be happy in such a small tank though. Off to do some research.

Commit and go with various Blyxas, such as Novoguineensis or aubertii.

Blyxa are also one of my top plants and are so versatile.

Like you I've since ripped up most of the Blyxa in the first photo and replanted (in the hundreds) but had loads left over too and don't know what to do with.

I haven't had one escape, but my tank is fairly well covered.

They go above the water line to lay their eggs, so if you don’t have a lid, they’re quite likely to explore outside the tank.

I have Kubotai Rasbora and I love them...but...they are the most active fish in my tank. I think they would be a bit too much for anything less than 10 gallons. I'm about to stock my newly cycled 7 gallon UNS 30C and along with shrimp, I'm thinking Chili Rasboras. I have a few in my bigger tank and based on their characteristics there, I think 8 to 10 in the 7g would be fine.

I may just stick to invertebrates. Something that would be happy in a small, unheated tank. Just not red neocaridina since they are in most of my tanks already.
