Why do plants melt in the beginning ?

I recently posted a comment on help with planting emersed plants in my journal.

In a timely fashion this month’s issue of AGA has a nice scientific write up by Eduardo Fonseca from Brazil about the process of melting.

It is a great read and would highly recommend if people are subscribed to the AGA.

There is also a nice write up on Co2 by @Dennis Wong ; he has posted on this topic in this community before.
 
I read the plant melting article. The main point i want to address is that his recommendation to start a tank with no CO2 (when CO2 injection is available) is counter productive - having good O2 and CO2 levels both elevate melting stress, and ethylene production is (over) stimulated by a lack of either O2 and or CO2.
