Hello, thanks for the welcome! I have a 90 gallon tank with mainly low tech plants like swords, ludwigia, val, and hairgrass however I ventured into monte carlo and I am trying to get that to carpet. My co2 equipment is getting delivered on Saturday, and even though I've had many planted tanks before this will be my first time injecting co2 so I am trying to get as much info as possible. I still have some reading to do but don't be surprised to see a lot of questions coming in soon!

I realize that it might be helpful to explain how to actually dial in a CO2 setup!

First, you have to keep as many variables constant as possible. If you are constantly changing these, it makes it VERY hard to dial in CO2 injection:

Things that change CO2 levels in the water are:

• Injection rate (bubbles per second for bubble counters, or SCCM if using flowmeter. Also rotatable/adjustable horizontal reactors)
• Temperature (warmer = less CO2, colder = more CO2)
• Surface agitation (how near your filter/lily pipe is towards the surface of the water)

The 2hrAquarist legend Dennis Wong tested the Hanna Test Kit vs a $3,000+ CO2 testing device and found accurate results in low kH aquasoil based tanks when compared. $30 for CO2 readings vs $3,000+!

It's a simple kit that comes with simple instructions, two differently sized vials for different detection ranges, a titration syringe phenolphthalein indicator, and an NaOH solution of some unknown concentration to titrate with.

For the range of detection on the Hanna CO2 test kit we want (0-50ppm):
