Thread Bobbin Holder - Fly Tying

Anyone else here into fly fishing and tying?

Yesterday I was working on making moss walls and attaching some moss to driftwood, and a tool that very much came in handy was a fly tying bobbin holder.


The bobbin holder keeps tension and makes navigating the thread around wood a little easier. Give it a try if you have one. I've decided getting white residue everywhere from gel superglue is more annoying than doing thread wrapping.

I think I have half a dozen bobbins in my tying kit. Many years go before I started tying my own flys I would have wrapped cotton just holding the spool of thread so this is going to be great option. I’ve never used superglue. I think it used to assumed toxic back when I last had a planted tank.

Nice tip. I've made them over the years using stuff I had lying around the house. Here's a simple DIY tutorial for anyone interested.

I picked one up a few years ago after seeing it being used in an ADA video. I thought it was some specific ADA item until I did some googling. They do make tying moss or any plant a lot easier.
