OK, I know @Jeff Miotke has a YouTube channel but from hints I've seen in posts, I'm assuming there are a few others here as well. Technically, I do but I've only posted a couple short vids of my main tank. I've still got a lot to learn about video editing and making them look as good as possible before they go through the YouTube compression. I have learned to shoot in C-Log and edit the color in post processing, so I'm getting closer, as the color of my first vids was the biggest issue.

Chime in and let us know your YouTube channels. I would love to check them out and I'm sure others would as well.

I don’t have any videos yet… but I created my channel last week and plan to start shortly. I’m redoing my office/ game room to make room for a small scape studio where I can make builds etc aside from my main house tanks.
I'm working on the same project this week. New paint and flooring in the home office. Paint is done and flooring starts tomorrow. I plan to put the next 2 or 3 scapes in that room. Next big project will be completing the remodel of the basement for a larger gallery.

Man I’m glad I didn’t let your post slip through the cracks, I almost didn’t see it. This past December I decided to finally make a channel but haven’t really worked up the courage to start making content. I think my biggest hurdle has been the video part. I did a ton of research and dumped a bunch of money into creating a rig to use with my IPhone 15 pro so I could film in log. I could never get everything to all work at the same time for longer than 15min or so. Have a gimbal, a usb c hub, portable ssd and mic but something would disconnect and stop the recording. So I went out and bought a DJI osmo pocket 3. It’s pretty awesome and simple but now the editing part is giving me all the anxiety.

I’m in such a perfect place to start creating content too! I have a beautiful 48” x 20” Crystaline G2 Show that’s ready to be scaped and flooded. I have a 40ish gal 90cm x 50cm scape that needs to be torn apart so I can dig out a bunch of Ivanacara Bimaculata juvies. I’ve been building Yugang Reactors and trying to get more local people into co2. A lot of good content to be made but the damn video part is really eating my lunch. I don’t even know if the laptop I bought for this is even good enough to edit and post the videos. Do you need a super computer? I’m genuinely asking because I haven’t even gotten that far.

Yeah, there's a lot to digest when it comes to making high quality video that will still look good when uploaded to Youtube. I'm struggling with it and I'm a tech guy. I'm gradually learning though and hope to test my skills with the next scape. As for computer, editing 4k video does put a load on the processor but your laptop can probably manage. It just might be a bit slow. I'm currently using CapCut for editing. @Jeff Miotke mentioned what software he uses in another post here but I forget exactly where.

Good luck with your channels! YouTube is a tough game right now—AI-driven content is flooding the platform with massive amounts of videos, and it’s getting harder every month to get impressions. Even with strong growth and solid analytics, I’m personally seeing about 10x fewer impressions than I did just six months ago.

On the editing side, I use a MacBook M1 Max, and Final Cut Pro handles 4K smoothly. The M4 Mini, which runs about $550, is only slightly slower and should run Final Cut Pro well enough too.

One word of advice: avoid CapCut. Their terms are pretty extreme—they basically claim rights over everything you produce. If you want a free option, DaVinci Resolve is the way to go. I’ve used Final Cut Pro, DaVinci, and Premiere, and honestly all three are comparable for most workflows. For me, Final Cut is the easiest and helps me create faster.

At the end of the day, video quality matters less than the story you’re telling. Invest your time and money into the things that make your story stronger—that’s what truly connects with viewers.

Oh and the one deal killer is bad audio. Invest money there first.

Hope that helps!

My channel will just be for my own fun and to share stuff with friends. Anything beyond that is really just a nice little ego boost. 😊 I initially had a couple shorts and one longer video but one short is all that is public right now. Was shocked with just those few videos, I actually got a couple subscribers. LOL! You can find my channel at @PaxMan42
