Some of the other terrestrial projects I’m working on. Slowly building towards the halo project, an ebb and flow Florida wetland biotope utilizing a bell siphon for tidal management. These are almost all in my office. The bog biotopes are experiments for emersed growing species that are sensitive to shipping in fully submersed form (Sclerolepis unifloria, for example).

Swapped out the Fluval nano on the nano terrarium and put the plain terrarium light back on it. It looks so much better. The Fluval color rendering is such garbage.

Reorganized the bog bin with individual pots. It’s not as aesthetic, but the sphagnum was growing faster than anything else and starting to smother plants and root systems.









Everything seems to be adjusting swimmingly. I’m using a diluted MaxSea 16/16/16 solution as a foliar spray and everything is responding incredibly. A lot of mineral sensitive plants in there and I haven’t noticed anything that hasn’t benefited.

What are you using for substrate? When I had some carnivorous I think I used sphagnum and perlite or maybe some peat and perlite. Is that live sphagnum?

These are all indoors, correct? I have an outdoor carnivorous bog, and was under the impression that sarracenia and most sundews require a dormant period in winter. Have you found that not to be a problem?
I do have some tropical pitchers (Nepenthes, in the hanging baskets) that come in and live under lights in the basement when it gets below 50F.

@*Ci* That looks awesome. I tried to have a small container garden several years in a row with carnivorous plants. It would grow great until a squirrel would destroy it. I'd put it back together and they would do it again. I finally gave up. Now my back deck it too shaded to grow carnivorous plants.

Yes they’re all indoors. I have a few more at home in the garage too. Those are in my office. Most of them are Florida natives (Pinguicula, Drosera, Sarracenia, etc), that have not seemed to require a dormancy yet. The only northern plant is the Sarracenia purpurea but it hasn’t really skipped a beat. Next division I’ll be bringing a few home for an outdoor bog. Your setup is inspiring.

The substrate is a peat moss and perlite mix with live sphagnum. Idk why, but live sphagnum is like this magical element that prevents just about any algae whatsoever from growing.

Thanks for that. And what dilution of the MaxSea do you make?

I use about a half teaspoon per gallon and use it as a foliar spray for just about everything.
