Welcome to ScapeCrunch

We are ScapeCrunch, the place where planted aquarium hobbyists come to build relationships and support each other. When you're tired of doom scrolling, you've found your home here.

Anyone sentient during the 70s should easily remember Charles Schulz celebration of simple pleasures…

Today is the first time I have actually mixed up solutions before running out…

Usually I look at dwindling amounts and think to myself..” I really ought to mix up a new batch before I run out”. And I repeat that daily… until I run out…

Then I mix up a new batch and shake it several times and then tilt the bottle so remaining undissolved crystals are carried away from the inlet and figure “surely it will all be dissolved by tomorrow……

I worry that if I had autodosers they would be empty for a week before I clued into it….

Daily dosing is a better plan for me. Feed the fish, feed the plants, check the heat and co2 tank daily….

I pre-mix 2000 ml at a time into these containers:

Then fill my 500ml bottles from them:

The big jugs give me 4 dosing bottle fills. When I fill the last bottle and the jug is near empty, I put it on top of the nearby washing machine so it is constantly staring me in the face … but I have a whole 500ml bottles worth to go before I’m desperate! While I’m at it, I go ahead and re-fill some of the other jugs that are low (since they hold over 3000 ml, there is enough room).
I do all my weighing and mixing on top of the washer, next to the laundry sink, and keep my gram scale and one of these hanging right there to use, so it is hard to come up with many excuses not to get the job done : )

This is also handy for giving a quick mix if anything in the jugs has settled.

Cheers!
