Poll ScapeCrunch Mascot??? Please vote

So a graphic designer that we use for some of our site's work suggested that ScapeCrunch should have a mascot like Reddit's Snoo. They sent me their suggestion for us to consider which was very kind of them.

Please meet Doc CO2:


Like Reddit's Snoo, the idea would be to include this cute little guy into the site but not to replace our current logo. He would be around in images, upcoming badges, etc.

While being kind (we didn't pay for this), what do you think? Should we start to use Doc CO2 or does it not fit our site? Please vote and comment.

Sort of reminds me of Dr Bunsen Honeydew. We need a lab assistant that looks like Beaker to go with it.

For me the eyes / tongue are what make it creepy / cutesy.. if the eyes were just white like Snoo and Honeydew it might be an improvement

Well, i commented, but I didnt vote as I dont have a terribly strong feeling one way or the other.

And I suspect if there are not an awful lot of votes by the end of the week, then those not voting likely dont have strong leanings…

In which case, make an executive decision…

Even in cases where there is lots of participation, results can be evenly split…, ie recent presidential elections…

Got another concept based on your comments. This one is more general but speaks to our site being focused on open and friendly discussions. It gives a nod to our aquariums with the rectangular outline and blue representing an aquarium.

Again, the suggestion is to have a mascot that embodies what this site represents. This is not changing our logo but would be used around the site and with upcoming features.

Please don't be shy to give honest opinions, positive or not. This is our site and this is just a well-intentioned recommendation from a designer that does this for other sites.

I don’t know about this whole mascot thing - I would not like seeing any of these cartoons near the logo or cover photo. Too childish and would give a wrong visual picture of the site to a newcomer’s first look at the homepage. There is nothing about the current, classy “look” that discourages friendliness or openness and I don’t think a vague concept like that of a mascot is needed to convey such.

I like it better than the first one, but I think @*Ci* makes a good point. If we do it, it shouldn’t look childish. I love the ScapeCrunch logo, so if it looked classy like that I would be happy.

And I still find the mania super distressing There's a reason mascots like Snoo have calm expressions.

Anyway I come here for calm and I grow plants for calm, for small achievements, for a little dignity when I can find it.. I don't know that a mascot can convey either I think your old skool logo does great

I think it should be a plant or fish. The second was a step backwards imo.

Is one required? No, but a cute one would be cool imo.
