So I am a gadget guy I love gear. I have tons of stuff and the ones I like most are my home made powerhead polisher and vacuum. I use it daily with filter floss (polyfill) and at water change as a vac and blower to clean the substrate.

I also have a reactor with its own pump and pipes so I have extra flow and good co2 ph drop. I get 1.45ph drop

I don’t have photos sorry but there has to be tons of gadgets diy or bought that help you. I want to see them please

Not my picture but my current gadget of choice.

I love this topic, having worked various aquarium maintenance gigs at different companies using the majority of commercially available brands/equipment here in the states (along with some custom equipment), equipment has become a critical part of the hobby for me.

I’m not a huge fan of surface skimming lily pipes, so the new (ish) Oase Crystal Skim 350 has been a necessity add on to any of my grow out or display tanks.

My girlfriend loves cleaning and burning scented candles etc so there’s no limit to the amount of aerosols/oils that land on the surface of my tanks and these little (and bigger model) surface skimmers have kept my tanks surface tension spotless.

Most impressively is the stealthy flow control and output diffusion through the bottom of the unit as to not disturb tall delicate stem plants in any part of an aquascape.

That being said, take this opinion for what you will, as I am biased towards Oase, but I truly feel like this is an improvement to what is available on the market.

OMG this is something I can relate to. My wife LOVES burning the scented candles and I saw the result in the oils sitting on the surface.

While I haven't tried yours, I did use the ADA Vuppa II. Worked fantastically well and didn't look too bad in the aquarium. You can see it below next to the powerhead.

I have always wanted to try one of those, I am a fan of Oase I have 6 Oase filters and many other Oase products

The surface skimmers big down fall is a constant water level. While some adjust to lower levels to a point. With winter weather a warm in home temps. Our aquariums can loose a lot of water over a day’s time. An auto top off is important to keep the level of the the same. This will help the whole aquarium work better
