Since I started making liquid macros I have noticed my KNO3 turns yellow/orange after a few days. It does have an odd smell but nothing I can pinpoint easily. I assume it’s from a production contaminate since the powder is Snow White and only turns this color after it’s been dissolved.

Any ideas what it is and if it can cause a problem? I’ve had some fine hair algae triggered since I switched to solution dosing which is probably irrelevant but the timing lines up.

Ive seen that before. A new batch of PO4 started making mine do that one time. My guess would be what you said, some kind of contaminate or impurity

Idk if its really a problem but I didnt like it. Funny like you I also had a couple minor plant issues right about when it happened (dont remember what exactly) and that made me a little paranoid about it. Cant be sure it had anything to do with it though

Anyway potassium sorbate at .2 gm per 500 ML stopped it

Ascorbic acid can sometimes tinge the water a little bit after a few days. But I wasnt adding that so in my case it was something to do with the ferts

Thank you!

I added ascorbic acid and potassium sorbate out of habit from adding them to the micros. I wonder if it’s the ascorbic acid causing the color like you said. I’ll try it without when I make up the next 500 mls.

Yeah macros are fine without it
