Hello Everyone.

I’ve been dealing with this awful stuff for years, but don’t actually know what it is. Can anyone give me an ID?

It’s soft and gelatinous, and grows from a stalk on the driftwood. Pieces break off and re-establish elsewhere in the tank.

If left unchecked enormous clumps can swamp the plants. It is really awful!!

Is it a white mold, or fungus?

Other than manual removal, nothing seems to be effective in getting rid of it.

Thanks for any ID/advice!IMG_2545.webp

I don’t know exactly what it is, but if it’s a mold it fungus you could try spot dosing it with hydrogen peroxide

If the common denominator is the wood, I’d pitch it. Do you know what kind of wood it is? Spiderwood and similar woods will produce nasty fungus like that but over time it remedies itself with manual removal and what I’m assuming its bacteria populating the surface preventing its regrowth.

Thanks everyone. I have tried spot dosing with H2O2 and it seems to make no difference. These days I manually remove it as best I can, then use H2O2 on the area where it was.
….but it just keeps coming back.

The rest of the tank isn’t looking great, so I’m sure there are many things I need to sort out in this tank…

…. But was keen on an ID. As it often grows from a stalk, I was really scratching my head.
