Welcome to ScapeCrunch, @Sean Riva!
We would love to get to know you. Please tell us about yourself. What tank do you have?
Hello Art + ScapeCrunch,

I grew up with 11 tanks, 2 acre koi pond, as well as horses, cattle, sheep, goats, ducks, chickens, dogs, cats, breeding all of them. I then was lucky enough to attend a school that had a huge zoo and was always maintaining tanks and the oldest slow loris ever in captivity “Pete.” I have been dreaming of jumping back into fish tanks and knew I wanted fresh water and a more planted tank. I have been lucky enough to hook up with Tommy @ aqua rocks Colorado and have a 150 gal 48x30x24 3/4 iron less glass with seamless eurobrace custom corner cutouts for lines and cabinet etc, coming. I plan on doing black lava rock that is very dimensional with fully planted reds and pinks (my 3 year old daughter’s favorite colors) and a small school of tetras - leaning Damond. I am not a loud sump fan and the new canister filters seem like a great answer and achievement I will be filming everything and starting a documentary YouTube channel of my experience from the ground up just for education as to learn through my experiences. As I used to work in Hollywood and set design I plan on constructing my hardscape not with foam and glue but precision drilled and medical grade titanium pins and take a very long time to complete and tear down and recomplete many times over until I have the right environment and potentially photo one day to enter into a comp. Any advice is welcome I plan on reading a lot of the previous posts to get up to speed. I also hope to create such a ecosystem as to breed (currently leaning) diamond tetra and give them to other hobbies to help perpetuate the species plants and fish alike. I am a doctor of physical therapy working in ICUs and so my tank will be a place I meditate infront of an reconnect to the biological godly mysticism that will help my racing mind to be in the moment and stay true. Sorry for the essay… so much more to learn from you all. Thanks again.

Well, welcome Dr. Riva! I’m so glad you found us and that you decided to join our growing community.

Congrats on jumping back in with both feet, it seems! We are all a little nuts about our planted aquariums so you will find a friendly group to bounce ideas off and to show off! We love it all.

Some housekeeping. Please take a look at our FAQ for answers to many questions on using our forum. For what you’re doing, it’s best to set up a Journal like most of us have. Finally, ask questions as much as you can. You will get out of this community what you put in so please lean in so that you help yourself and at the same time help others.

With your background in set design, I can only imagine the hard scape you will be able to build. I’m sure we will be learning from you. Really looking forward to following along with your journal of your tank build.

Lastly, I too want my aquarium to be my zen zone, where I can try to rebalance and reconnect with nature and my spiritual side. It’s a work in progress.

Looking forward to talking tanks and plants with you.
