Sorry it took me so long to get over here, @Mr.Shenanagins!

I'm not sure if people really use these intro threads, but I'll go for it.

I entered the hobby 4 years ago as a fun distraction during the initial covid lockdown and got in way deeper than I expected. I've been spending some time at UKAPS and before that at TPT. My personal approach to planted aquaria is no supplemental CO2, with a rich substrate, lean water column, and I've been experimenting with higher light and more colorful plants for a couple of years. This is my 22-gallon primary display tank:

I've had a 75 gallon in the works for some time that I hope will be a step up from this one. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that a lot is possible without CO2, but it takes time and I'm very patient.

I look forward to seeing what this place is about!

The more I learn about CO2, the more I admire fellow hobbyists who can have such beautiful tanks without supplementing CO2. Your tank looks great, and I hope to learn from you @ElleDee . I tried once without CO2, not successful, and may try again. What is your tanks temperature?

I look forward to seeing what this place is about!
We together continue to build this place, thanks to @Art @GreggZ and several others who started ScapeCrunch. I believe it will become what we want it to be :)

Thank you, @Yugang. It's a work in progress, but it's fun work.

I don't run heaters, so my tanks run between ~70F and ~74F depending on the season, so it's on the cooler side. I am planning on heating the 75 gal in the winter to keep the lower end around 73F to expand the species of fish I feel comfortable keeping.

I have soft tap water (1.5 dKH, TDS is between 60 and 80 ppm), so that is quite lucky. My tanks are fairly similar to @sudiorca's, mostly by coincidence, however the one critical difference is my pH isn't as low. Without any "difficult" species that hasn't mattered too much.

You should definitely try low tech again! They can be very easy and forgiving once they get going, and they get even better with a little extra TLC.

Hey @ElleDee welcome to the forum. I remember you from TPT. Very nice tank you have there. Looks like there is a LOT going right, especially without CO2. Like others have said you start a tank build journal as I am sure many would be interesting in hearing more about your set up.

Thanks, I appreciate it coming for you. I've learned so much since my TPT days and an eager to execute something new and outdo my previous builds. (I have a 9 month old, so getting enough contiguous free time is challenging. It's going to happen though!)

I know this is old news, but I'm still bummed about the deletion of your old journal. I recently was looking for an old interaction at TPT and couldn't find it... and then it hit me that it probably happened there and was gone forever. What a waste!

Yeah it's really too bad they took down the journal. So many great people contributed to it over a long number of years.

I do have a copy of the entire journal, but I'd have to fix all the broken links to the pictures which would be a huge job with 200 pages and 4K posts.

Every once in a while I search to find a post from the past. It's always a kick to revisit what we were doing back then. Funny even today I still get messages from people looking to find it. It turns out way more people than I thought were following along.

Good to see you here @ElleDee !

@GreggZ got banned for contradicting a mod's stupid assertion in a thread about KH. The whole community followed Gregg and his journal had documented proof that he was right. Everybody knew it, or could easily go look. So like a witness about to testify you dunnit, it had to go too

Such a petty butthurt move by what I assume is a grown man. The hobby lost a great resource

Nice to see you too, @Burr740!

Oh, I think it was much more than about low kh. People get banned over there all the time, but the deletion of @GreggZ's journal and entire account was highly unusual. It was a digital smiting and looked extremely personal to me, though I am sure the banner tells himself otherwise. Fair enough, that was a billion years ago anyway.

Thanks Joe. The icing on the cake is that as you well know now a few years later he is repeating almost word for word the post that I ended up getting banned for.

When he sent me the warning for posting about low/zero dKH tanks I told him he was just flat out wrong. He didn't like that and I pushed back and he banned me. The only plus was the two or three days on Facebook when word got out and things REALLY spiraled out of control! It was like releasing the Kraken!

I will say the outpouring of support was really something. People were coming out of the woodwork to comment on the whole fiasco which I appreciated.

Seems that all the homies from UKAPS are reunited in this single thread!
If you don't mind having some exiles around, you're most welcome @Hanuman :)

You had a great thread - one of my favourites and your tank was an example for me - but have not seen you posting much recently. Would be great if you could become more active here on ScapeCrunch.
