Welcome to ScapeCrunch, @DeepBlue!
We would love to get to know you. Please tell us about yourself. What tank do you have?

Thanks and hello all.

I am new to the aqua scaping world and I have just set up my first aquarium since high school (about 30 years ago!).I have a rimless Landen 60P (60x40x40 external dimensions) that is about 24 gallons. My current setup has an undergravel filter covered by a thin layer of larger gravel, a layer of flourite black and a layer of fine gravel on top. I am also using a Fluval 207 with glass lilly pipes and have an Amazon c02 reactor (Fzone) with an in-tank ceramic diffuser. My light is a Twinstar S series which a found via an article on 2hr aquarist.

I added a few large elephant stone rocks on top and have been buying and planting a variety of plants from my LFS and petsmart. My initial thinking is that i wanted to see which plants would thrive before trying to create a coherent planting scheme. I have a few anubis, buce, red and white rotala, water wisteria and a couple ferns.

I have a handful of little fish (2 kuhlis, 3 corys, 6 platties and a female koi betta) and 4 amano shrimp.

I discovered scapecrunch while going down the rabbit hole of c02 distribution.

Attached is a more current photo. I think I am going to remove the rocks and go Dutch. Do you all typically plant exactly what you want or plant many different plants and adjust as you see how they grow?

I plan it out and buy according to the plan. I do buy some extra options if I need more plants to keep from paying postage. Then I make changes as I go along. I set up 2 small farm tanks, so if I swap something out I can save those plants until I want to use them again. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said I’m happy and done making changes, and then changed a bunch of stuff the very next week!
