Looking for advice on driftwood providers you trust to provide spiderwood that won't kill fish.

I'm trying driftwood for the first time, I ordered spiderwood off Amazon, and got some nice looking bits.

I soaked it, it sank immediately. Soaked a week, no real tannins released. I put it in my 55g planted tank last night, and my 1.5 yr old swordtail died in the night.

Sooooo who should I order spiderwood from?

What do you think happened? Could not be related. Anything else look off?

It is possible it was just a coincidence. The driftwood was forming the usual expected fungus on it when I added it after a week of soaking in dechlorinated water….. and the swordtail was the only one I saw nibbling on the spiderwood. Nothing unusual in his appearance or behavior. My hypothesis was the driftwood had been treated with something?

Regardless, my question still stands: I want to buy new driftwood. Where do you guys buy spiderwood from?

Pet World Lawrence has some nice hardscape materials including spiderwood. Good selection and prices, too.
