I just got my driftwood soaking, and was wondering if there would be any harm in adding like 1/4c of Metricide to the 80ish gallons while it soaks. I'm thinking it would kill off any algae or fungal spores while it's spending its time getting waterlogged.

Any reasons why I shouldnt?

Will not do any good adding chemicals. Nature has a way of overcoming anything we throw at it. For most part if its clean (without the bark) wood then all you'll get is this white biofilm type stuff that grows on it. Fish, inverts love to eat it.
