Is there a trick to get this plant to grow in an inert substrate? It's doing very well in my aqua soil tank, but I just can't get it to do anything in my other tanks with BDBS .

35ppm Ca
7ppm Mg

Per dose total
4.5/1.2/6 - Fe around .45 proxy
3 doses per week, sometimes a fourth.

Its one thats definitely more forgiving in soil-type subs. To do fine in my sand it needs high co2 and high macros. Its a good co2 indicator plant with any sub, with inert sub its a particularly good one

Ruling co2 out, raising macros usually fixes it. For example it can be the only plant struggling, tops kinda stunt, they become less full and not-so-well-shaped, often it just degrades half way down the stem. Its a lot more touchy than given credit for

Excavate some of the sand substrate and try placing a mesh bag with maybe 1/2 inch of aquasoil at the base of it and try planting over it and see what it does…

It is an experiment…

Or, you could try some root tabs….
