Marian showed off his growing skills by sharing his grow out setup on Facebook. Things to note are 100% or close to it humidity and the use of inert growing medium.

I’ve done some similar over the years when I had time and the inclination. For me, achieving this type of cleanliness was hard as green dust algae loved growing on the glass and the high humidity would cause the top glass to fog reducing PAR.

Do you have a setup like this? Would you try it?

Great way to increase your plants from cuttings for you or to earn a little side money.

I have had a set up like this in a spare 10 gallon tank and found it to be super easy. I used aquasoil, fairly low light, and only kept the humidity around 85%, so not exactly the same. I wasn't trying to push a lot growth, just keep them healthy until I had a new setup ready and bulk up some tissue culture material.

What is the substrate he's using exactly?Did he give a rationale for using something inert? Just personal convenience?

That’s what he said in his post. I think he’s point is that when growing like this, nutrients are delivered via the water the plants are sitting in. I used to use Rockwool as a growing medium and that is completely inert.

I don’t know if he does it but I also used to use foliar spray on the leaves and had a DIY yeast CO2 generator pumping in CO2 into the tank via a small hole in the top. I don’t know if it ever helped much but the thought of supersaturating the area with CO2 appealed to me.
