Looking to use Lobelia cardinalis for an upcoming 60 x 40 x 40 cm tank build Dutchish style. I am hoping to create a L.Cardinalis street in this. I see there is a mini version and a normal version. It would be great if people with experience comment on which one would be more suitable for a street starting from the foreground and going to the mid-ground.

Thank you!

Thank you!

I’ve used both the mini and, ‘normal’ variant of Cardinalis. Both are equally beautiful! I found the normal variant far easier to trim versus the density of the mini.

I personally used the mini in a smaller scape, and the normal variant in a larger aquascape setting. The normal variant is easier on the eyes for me.

I have grown the normal variant of lobelia cardinalis as well, and can say that as long as you keep ontop of your trimming+replanting, it should turn out beautifully! Especially under higher light. The mini tends to have issues with shooting out "tentacle monster" roots everywhere, which could not be what you are wanting to go for.

Thanks ordered the mini, couple days ago. Let’s see
