We get a lot of questions about the image attachment size and how it works. I've recently made some tweaks so wanted to share with everyone.

Max upload size: 10 megabytes
Max dimensions: 2500 pixels wide by 3000 pixels high

When you click the image button on the toolbar, you can upload an image from your hard drive and it attaches to the post where your curser is. You can click the image which will create dots on each corner of it. You can grab and drag those dots to resize your image to the size you want.

Hope that helps make adding images to your posts easier. Of course, let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Good to know the max allowed pixel size. Typically I go into MS Paint to resize uploaded pics but it's always a guess as to what size to shrink them to. Now I know.

The important thing is the overall size in megabytes. I think most people have images that are less than 10 mb unless they are really high-res camera shots. So, this size should allow for uploads without too much thought. I think most cell phone images are around 4-5 megabytes.

The contest upload section will have unlimited upload size so this won't be a limitation for the contest.

I see a lot of people struggling with this (@ryancamaratta 😜) and I always have to dig a little to find this post again, but I thought I'd just add: if you can edit the picture on any Microsoft computer, just

  1. Open the image in Paint 3D.
  2. Click the ellipsis > "Resize Image"
From here you can either edit the pixels by picking whichever one is higher and bringing it down to the max, or you can play with the file size. For me, it's always the pixels that are the problem, so I slide the "quality" up to 100% and (since my pics are almost always landscape) I edit the width to 2,500. The height automatically scales itself (or vice versa), and the file size always ends up within the limits too.

You can do it in the old Paint as well, but it doesn't show you file size info:

Hope that helps folks

Thank you! Always easier to resize the image locally on your computer.
