I asked AI how to grow the planted aquarium hobby in the US. Here's what it told me.

Increasing the popularity of planted aquariums in the United States involves a combination of education, accessibility, and community engagement. Here are some strategies that can help promote the hobby of planted aquariums:

1. **Educational Resources:** Providing easily accessible and comprehensive educational resources about planted aquariums is crucial. This could include online articles, videos, webinars, and even workshops at local fish stores or community centers. Cover topics like setting up a planted tank, plant care, aquascaping techniques, and the benefits of live plants.

2. **Engaging Social Media:** Utilize platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook to showcase beautiful planted aquariums and share tutorials. Influencers and enthusiasts can contribute by sharing their experiences, tips, and progress, inspiring others to get involved.

3. **Aquarium Clubs and Groups:** Encourage the formation of local or online planted aquarium clubs and discussion groups. These communities provide a space for enthusiasts to share experiences, seek advice, and organize events like plant swaps or aquascaping competitions.

4. **Retailer Support:** Work with aquarium stores to promote planted tanks. Encourage them to offer a variety of live aquatic plants, suitable substrates, and fertilizers. Some stores might also consider hosting workshops or collaborating with local clubs to organize events.

5. **Aquascaping Competitions:** Organize and promote aquascaping contests or events that showcase the artistic and creative aspects of planted aquariums. These competitions can attract attention and interest from both newcomers and experienced hobbyists.

6. **Collaboration with Schools:** Partner with educational institutions to introduce students to the science and art of planted aquariums. This could involve setting up small tanks in classrooms, teaching about water chemistry and ecology, and demonstrating the benefits of live plants.

7. **Public Aquarium Displays:** Collaborate with public aquariums to create planted aquarium displays that educate visitors about aquatic ecosystems, biodiversity, and the importance of maintaining healthy aquatic environments.

8. **Online Forums and Websites:** Establish or support online forums and websites dedicated to planted aquariums. These platforms provide a space for enthusiasts to share information, ask questions, and showcase their setups.

9. **Workshops and Seminars:** Organize workshops, seminars, and events featuring experienced aquarists, biologists, and horticulturists. These events can cover a range of topics, from beginner-friendly techniques to advanced aquascaping.

10. **Promote Sustainability:** Highlight the ecological benefits of planted aquariums, such as their contribution to water quality, oxygen production, and habitat creation for aquatic creatures. Emphasize how planted tanks can be part of a sustainable and balanced aquarium ecosystem.

11. **Collaborative Content:** Collaborate with aquatic equipment manufacturers, retailers, and influencers to create informative and engaging content that promotes the hobby. This could include product reviews, setup guides, and tutorials.

12. **Participation in Expos and Trade Shows:** Participate in aquarium-related expos and trade shows to showcase planted tanks and engage with a wider audience. These events provide opportunities to connect with fellow enthusiasts and potential newcomers.

Remember that promoting the hobby of planted aquariums requires a combination of patience, dedication, and a genuine passion for sharing the beauty and benefits of these living aquatic ecosystems."

I've got to say, I agree with everything it said. I'm starting to like this AI thingy.

I'm glad to see that ScapeCrunch is doing some of the things listed. So important to continue to push for our hobby to grow. What do you think? Anything it missed?

Only a very few of these on this list we are activelly doing here in the USA. I get that most on this list take money to setup and get going but as they say it takes money to make money.
The biggest addition I see would be #4 Retailer Support. From this alone they could achieve 1, 5, 6, and 7.
#1 Educational resources. Making everything cohesive and in one spot not scattered over the entire web. This also means getting rid of all the miss information and so called theories. The constant fighting between low tech vs high tech etc.
#5 We do have several Aquascaping Compititions here but they are not very publicized. We need live competiions throughout the country so as to get people excited about the hobby and actually see what can be done.
#6 Collibration with Schools. There are so many ascpects of this hobby from proper plant growing, water / fertilizer chemistry, biology. The list is enourmous.
#7 Public Aquarium Displays. I have been to many many countries all over the world. It seems they all have aquarium stores and shops with great display tanks. Businesses, malls, pretty much anywhere there are mass amounts of people have aquatic displays. USA is the huge exception. You could go your entire life without seing a single one.
#9, #11, and #12 all fall into the same catagory. The Retailers, Manufacturers and Organizations should be turning out Trade Shows, Online content and Participating at the very least monthly.

Thanks, @BigWave. To me, there is a great opportunity for a retailer to capture the entire market for freshwater planted tanks in the USA. I think, maybe, BRS is trying to do it with their new "Freshwater" section but they are only in it for the money. To my knowledge, they don't have a true freshwater planted expert pushing them.

I keep waiting for someone to place this bet so we can support them with everything we've got.
