We are ScapeCrunch, the place where planted aquarium hobbyists come to build relationships and support each other. When you're tired of doom scrolling, you've found your home here.
This is a post in a Facebook group where the question is very simple and basic. Please notice the wildly different answers. How can a new person ever be confident in what they are being told?
Of course, posted with all due respect to the people giving advice here. I’m sure most are not trolling.
Well, I run in to lots of people on sites who are fairly confident of abysmal advice they got from watching a youtube presenter….
Some people are incredulous when you gently suggest a different course of action. After all, I am not on youtube…. And the youtube video is well edited….
with youtube it is one voice per video. With forums there are multiple voices and perspectives…
And with fishkeeping and even planted tanks, there can be many ways to success.
I was just having a conversation with my wife about this. It seems that if it's on TikTok, people automatically believe it's true. Part of our mission here is to crowdsource the good information for people to have easy access to it.
While there are many ways to success in planted tanks, there are many more ways to end up with an algae farm. There are fundamentals that must be learned before you decide which path you want to take.
I think a lot of people offer advice that works for them, but they don't put it into context. Sure they never change water, but they don't mention they have a 10 gal tank with 1 beta, Crypts, and no CO2
