Hello All,

This is a very low brow question considering the company in this group!

This is my first planted tank, and in retrospect I didn’t appreciate the impact of driftwood position combined with LED panel on shading.

…..my tank has only east to grow plants these days, but the shading is a problem in some spots. On the substrate levels there are only crypts, so I don’t need anything too powerful…
….however, the depth is 60cm.

I was looking for some clip on LEDs with flexible necks, so I could direct the light down to the shaded areas.

What are your thoughts?

(Moving the driftwood is not possible. They are enormous pieces, and all interconnected, and I have trimmed the ferns back as much as is practical)

Hi Clare!

Your tank looks nice! I need to put more thought and effort into my lower light setups.

I have no experience with the clip on LEDS but I did find that I was able to rescue the shade by raising the light, meaning out the lights higher off the tank.

In my old 75 gallon low tech I had to add a second LED bar across the tank to get the intensity back up after raising the single bar from 3 inches or so up to 8 inches. The heavy shadows disappeared with the better spread from the light being higher.

Adding a second identical LED bar and raising both up to about 8 inches from the water surface might help. I would think it would sturdier than clip on lights too.

Your tank looks like a great environment for the fish to relax. When I was looking for lights for my tank I have seen the Chihiros CII. Looks like they can have their position easily adjusted but may be a little small for your tank.

Regards
Nick
