First proper scape in nearly 3 years. Finally scaped and planted. Mixed carpet with Crypt. willissii and Schismatoglottis, as highlights, and Buce sp. epiphytic on the rocks. Rotala green and Hemianthus micranthemoides or Micranthemum micranthemoides flanking the big rock, or Moai. Waiting for some filter parts and then I’ll flood it, and dial in the CO2.

Lose the rock stack. Can't wait to see where this goes.
Thanks. I know what you mean, it does look a little incongruous. But I'm keeping faith with the rock stack. Once the rotala green and Hemianthus micranthemoides grow and shroud it at the sides I'm hoping it'll look more like an outcrop. Just wanted to try something a little different and diverge a little from the more formulaic.

I've used the two but similar species hoping the difference in leaf size will provide a little more perspective. The larger rotala is planted toward the front and the Hemianthus toward the back.

Pretty sure it's intended to be a Moai? 🗿
Pretty much, I didn't intend for it to be a Moai, but as it took form it just reminded me of one, so I went with it. Somehow my scapes always encourage some aspect of pareidolia.

May have been a little premature naming this. After sitting staring at it for a while I decided to add wood. Maintenance is going to be a pita, but I like it better. I think it's a bit more photogenic.

I guess I've subconsciously recreated an aspect of the landscape I see almost everyday. I live in an area of granite geology, formed by ancient volcanic activity, with tors and outcrops. Dating back to the precambrian, some 600 million years old.

There's descent cover of woodland too. It's very damp, often covered in moss and lichen, almost temperate rainforest. Anyway, I've rechristened the scape Cairn Wood. If a member of the moderating team could change the title I'd be grateful.

I cannot wait to see this come together excellent work!
Thanks, really appreciated.

Really like this.
@Tim Harrison , one of the master scapers here and it shows. I hope one day you find the time to post a collage of your best works and pictures here?
Thanks Yugang, that’s nice of you.

Or possibly, Elephant's Child 🐘
or, Mastodon 🤔😁
Haha, told you my scapes somehow inspire pareidolia. And thanks for changing the title? 🙂

This honestly now looks like something I’d run into in a fantastical landscape like Avatar. A light screen on this setup would be really awesome.
Thank you, I’ve much older brothers and they introduced me to the concept artist Roger Dean at a very early age.

I believe his art work was the inspiration for Cameron’s Avatar movies. Check him out. Maybe that’s another subconscious influence.

As for the light screen, I agree. I’ll have to see if I can get away with splurging on one 🙂

Dialling in the CO2. Always love to see the plants pearling…

BTW, thought I'd introduce my Instagram page, kill two birds... There are images of a lot of my old scapes there @Yugang, if you're still interested :)
