Will it work for freshwater and is it overkill?

I definitely like to keep and eye on things and my manual controller is getting mad at me when I want to check up on the tank while at work. I guess I'm disturbing her naps. Also, I had a snail crawl into a pump 2 nights ago and getting an alert would have been nice. My tank evaporates about a gallon in 24 hours and the new Apex offers an ATO monitor. There seems to be value in an Apex controller, but does the price warrant freshwater application? Are there alternatives?

I use the Apex controller and it works just fine. I don't think it's overkill if you need/like automation. I have not found another that has the experience and breadth of items.
